Reviews

Legbone sound like a mix of The Nitwitz (present time) and NOFX. Yeah I know it seems like quite an obscure mix, but that's what it sounds like, unfortunately leaning more towards NOFX though. Maybe it's the vocals reminiscence of Tony Slug in the first track "Pressure" that makes me think of The Nitwitz more than the music, but there are some action rock riffs in there as well, only not enough. In a way they also remind me of The Cooters, in the sense they aren't that typical sounding, at least not compared to the usual playlist at the ATTACK! HQ. The NOFX similarities and somewhat street punk sound bring it down, but the rocking riffs bring it up a bit and it lands somewhere along the lines of decent enough for a listen now and then. The Goons play punk rock with a thrashy chaotic touch and appeal to me more in the long run. I guess I could call them a thrash band but they don't quite have the speed so I'll keep the punk rock label attached to them and add that their DC roots shine through from time to time. Just as Legbone The Goons do three tracks, three good ones, and this was a nice surprise and The Goons made sure this piece of wax will be played a lot more than if it hadn't been a split. ATTACK ZINE - Aug 2006

Hold on to your jockstraps you fucking hillbillies!. THE GOONS are the kind of ne'er-do-wells your mother told you to stay away from! They churn out some unrepentant bad-music-for-bad-people! They have harnessed the half-eaten corpse of the CANDYSNATCHERS and hooked it to the RANDUMBS' hell-bound train. THE GOONS play really good journeyman rock'n'roll with absolutely no redeeming social value. I'll drink to that! On side two you will hear LEGBONE extolling the virtues of beer drinking in Ohio. The alcohol helps these punks cope with daily pressures at work and failed relationships. LEGBONE says, "I don't like people looking at me!" and has words that are heartfelt. THE GOONS, however, smash you on the head with fucking guitar rock. Yes (BR)
Maximum RocknRoll #281 - Oct. 2006

THE GOONS play fast, chaotic hardcore but it's done with a fair bit power and not without melody. The big letdown is the vocals; it sounds like an American equivalent of Cal from Discharge when his bollocks went back up. Painful. LEGBONE give us 3 tracks that are along the lines of Dag Nastys first album. Youth crew backing vocals but far more tuneful than all the beer dodgers. As good as HC gets these days. Goons 5/10 Legbone 7/10.

Cause Affected

Deny the truth deny yourself
Blame everything on someone else
Obsessed, possessed by what no one knows
Pressure builds until it blows

Symptoms of what ails - you

Run circles around what to do
The pressures killing
You hate the truth, you hate yourself
Take your loathing out on someone else

Symptoms of what ails - you

So restless

Sick in my skin
So hard to keep from screaming
Gnawing my hands till my fingers start bleeding
Grinding my teeth i pace my boots worn out
My nerves are out to eat themselves and I want out

I'm so restless - I want out

Sick in my skin
So hard to keep from screaming
Gnawing my hands till my fingers start bleeding
Grinding my teeth i pace my boots worn out
My nerves are out to eat themselves and I want out

I've failed my quest for peace of mind

Lay Down and Die

Is it when the things you love - they make you so pissed off
That you question who you really want to be
Or when the things you trust turn out to be a bust
And disillusioned is all you really seem to be

But what about the effort?
And what about the sweat?
And what about the blood we shed?
Was it all a waste?

Or when you sing the same old lines - seems like a million times
Till you forget what it was all supposed to mean
Or when you lose the faith that was the action's base
and forward motion turns to spinning of the wheels

But what about the effort?
And what about the sweat?
And what about the blood we shed?
Was it all a waste?

When do you know its time to lay down and die?
